Revealed How Nasarawa State University Operates 54 Different Bank Accounts-Bursars

The Bursar of the Nasarawa State University Keffi, Mr. Yakubu Azizi said that the university is operating different 54 Bank accounts and admitted that the Vice chancellor of the university can approve N1.5m per transaction, adding that there is no limit of transaction per day.

Azizi also admitted that N21 milliom and N10 million meant for staff training was used for the construction of 200 seater auditorium and for the Vice Chancellor overseas trip, Ogazi stated this when the Bursar of the University, Yakubu Azizi appeared before the members of the committee on Wednesday in Keffi local government area of the state.

The chairman House committee on Education, Science, Tech, Daniel Ogazi (APC) representing Kokona East constituency slammed the management of the University over un-audited reports since 2012.

Honorable Ogazi, Member Nasarawa State House of Assembly and Chairman, House committee investigating the alleged 2015/2016 admission irregularities and other matters has lambasted the management of the Nasarawa state University, Keffi over none auditing of schools finances since 2012 to date.

“Living the financial account of an institution like this un-audited for period of 4 years signifies ineffectiveness by the management which is against the change mantra of President Buhari”

The chairman House committee on education cautioned the accounting officers of the institution against financial incongruity, urging them to be prudent towards ensuring proper accountability of finances of the school.

Ogazi said that the investigation was not meant to witch-hunt anybody but was to ensure that the university adhere strictly to rules and regulation in order to improve on the standard of education in the state.

“We are not here to witch-hunt anybody but we are here to do our duties without fear or favour so as to protect the image of our university regarding to the issue of 2015/2016 admission irregularities and other matter”.

“As we can see and hear now that, the Bursar have submitted and admitted that the university have 54 different accounts and since 2012 to 2013 to date, the audit reports of the university are not even ready.

“We want to advise you to tell the management of the university the truth when never they are going wrong as a professional in order to ensure accountability and transparency, “he said.

According to him, the committee will submit it reports to the house during plenary on the next line of action and called for support and cooperation to enable the committee succeed in the task ahead of them.

He urged the Bursar to submit all the remittance of faculty dues as well as record of school fees and other financial transaction of the university to enable the committee do a thorough job that would assist in improving on the standard of education of the university

“N21million was used for the construction of 200 seater auditorium under TETFUND staff training and I am doing my best in ensuring transparency and accountability while discharging my duties and it is not all the accounts that I am signatory to, said the Bursar, Yakubu Azizi.

The committee also inspected some projects at the university which include staff office complex, Entrepreneurship Development Centre and Mass Communication complex among others.
