Returned Our Looted Money Or Face Sanction-Governor Al-Makura Tell Heads Of Tertiary Institutions Under Investigation

Nasarawa State governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura has warned the then head of the Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia to return all loots they acquired during their stewardship of the institution under investigation or face prosecution.

The governor hinted this when the Investigative panel of the Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia and the Fact finding Committees of College of Education, Akwanga and College of Agriculture, Lafia submitted their reports to the state governor.

Al-Makura issued a stiff warning to former gullible officer found wanting to make refund with immediate effect.

Saying government would not condone any outright stealing and pilfri of public office whatsoever.

The governor said the state government would come out with a whitepaper to compelled those indicted to make refund.

“My heart bleeds not for anything but for the fact that we are destroying the future of the generation yet unborn”.

“I’m scare over disposition of our tertiary institutions including the State University which are producing restive graduates”.

“The next step by the State government is to reconstitute tertiary institutions administratively and financially for optimum results”.

Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura eulogizes members of the Committees for the commitment, humility, and sense of objectivity in the discharge of their assignment.

The governor said the state government has taken a frantic measure in ensuring the reinvigoration of the education sector.

He gave the heads of tertiary institutions the go ahead to allocate hostels to students.

“In a holistic effort to addressing some of challenges faced by students in our Tertiary institutions all heads of tertiary institutions should go ahead and allocate the 8 completed hostels to students”.

“Remaining 2 hostels are still ongoing, the Panel raised alarm over the non-remittances of taxes deducted from staff salaries as PAYE AS YOU EARN”.

Fati Sabo says the Committee has make recommendations over tax evasion by the institution ranging from tax not remitted to Federal Inland Revenue Services and the Nasarawa State Board of Internal Revenue, she further maintained.

In the area of accreditation of courses hinted that lack of facilities contributed to the non-accreditation of some courses in the Institution averred that the Investigative Panel sought for the accreditation of courses.

She said there was misplaced prioritization by the management to facilitate the accreditation of courses which she said expires since 2016.

“We have one accredited Higher National Diploma course with 10 Courses for National Diploma but all loses their accreditation”.

The chairman also briefed the gathering that the sources of fund of the Polytechnic include, Government grants and subventions, loan, Internally Generated Revenue, TETFUND Intervention which comprises of Projects and Academic Staff Development and Training.
