Red Cross Lauds Lalong’s Peace Efforts

The Plateau State government has received commendation for the peace building efforts initiated by Governor Simon Lalong administration to put the state on the path of peace and development  by the International Community of the Red Cross.

In a press statement made available to journalists by the state commissioner of information and communication, Hon Yakubu Dati on Thursday in Jos, he said  the head of  Sub Delegation of the ICRC Jos, Hicham Rizkallah gave this commendation recently when the Plateau State Governor, Barr. Simon Lalong gave him audience at Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos.

The ICRC Head further commended the state government for collaborating with other stakeholders in keeping the peace on the Plateau, pointing out those assisting security agencies with vehicles and other logistics had gone a long way in reducing crises in the state.

Responding, Governor Simon Lalong maintained that no amount was too much to spend to guarantee the safety of lives and properties of citizens.

He said that the establishment of the Peace Building Agency, regular dialogue with stakeholders, and catering for the welfare of the people were some of the steps taken by his administration to minimize conflict in the polity.

The Governor, who assured ICRC that he would continue to assist organizations like theirs, stated that the 5 Pillar Policy Thrust adopted by his administration was aimed at reducing human sufferings and uplifting the quality of life of the people.

The ICRC carries out activities in support of persons affected by armed conflicts and violence in the north east, north central, and south south regions of Nigeria. The ICRC Sub Delegation in Jos, which cooperates with the Nigerian Red Cross, covers 7 states of Bauchi, Benue, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Plateau, Taraba and Kano , has provided food, medical and other assistance to people affected by violence.
