I was looking at a copy of an article published on Daily Trust newspaper titled; “Governor Abubakar and all-inclusive leadership in Bauchi” by one Ahmed Mahmoud Konkiyel. The writer passionately expressed his opinion about the administration of Governor Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar of Bauchi state.
Reading the paragraphs, I realized the writer might be one of the praise singers that put Bauchi state on an imaginary pedestal with their mellifluous words that flows seamlessly. They are the people whom words of praises remove every constraint and reservations in the eyes of Governor MA Abubakar, making him break limits, shift barriers and do things which don’t match his intellectual capacity. Also, they act very fast in pointing out the enemies of the governor. Because of their need to protect and consolidate their positions before Governor MA Abubakar, They perceive anybody who tries to take his attention away from them as a foe.
It’s undoubted that Governor Abubakar inherited huge problems from the erstwhile Governor Mallam Isah Yuguda and the People’s Democratic Party, but instead of coming up with policies that can bring the state back to track, he returned with the same old problems.
Bauchians voted out PDP because they are not happy with the state of affairs expecting APC will run a corruption-free administration, boost the economy, wipe out corruption and insecurity as well as improve the standard of education of the state.
Since Governor Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar assumed the leadership of the Peal of Tourism, the state declines steadily as the administration has not fulfilled even one of its campaign promises yet. In less than two years, the administration became irrelevant, confused, clueless, constrained, weakened, drained, and mangled beyond recognition. Above all, it has ushered in a new set of ancient evils that signaled the death of the state.
There was no innovation or any reform to transform the decadent education system from its dilapidated physical and content structures into modern system of innovative learning.
On cabinet formation, from the appointment of commissioners to assistants and head of agencies, there are either portfolio misplacements or the elevation of disturbing cronyism and incompetence, which started from the onset of the GMA’s administration. Some cabal gave plum appointments to their godsons.
Despite being educated, Governor MA Abubakar have disappointed his intellectual capacity by snubbing intellectuals and concentrated on sycophants whom always tell him what he wants to hear. After nearly two years in office, Governor MA Abubakar runs an administration without competent media team that disseminates information on government policies and counter constructive criticism on their principal in an emerging world of new media. Instead sycophants were hired and distributed mobile phones to counter criticism on social media and raise baseless allegations and accusations against people of proven integrity. It’s indeed regrettable for a government that pretends to be a change government to recruit youths who are supposed to be in schools or is in one way or the other contributing to the National development as social media soldiers that will foment trouble should the governor’s interest be threatened by others popularity.
On inclusive governance, the resignation letter of Alhaji Barau Ningi, the Commissioner for Budget and Planning is enough evidence. Barau in his letter cited that Governor MA Abubakar have disallowed enabling environment for his appointees to serve effectively. He alleged that the governor does not listen to anybody except sycophants who only tells him what he wants to hear. He also said Governor Abubakar has adopted a hostile, intimidating and aggressive posture that scares the entire sundry from telling good, honest and sincere advice.
Governor MA Abubakar has also systematically fueled the intra-party crises in the ruling APC by snubbing the party loyalists while he allowed cabals to give plum appointments to their godsons. One basic fact Governor MA Abubakar forget is that he rode on the saddle of a political party to power. The fortunes of the party are diminishing and those who labored to build the party and ensured its success have been relegated, while political ambulance chasers take the centre stage.
There is concern about the political future of MA Abubakar and APC in Bauchi State. As it stands today, barring any miracle, MA Abubakar could either be the first incumbent governor in Nigeria to lose a party ticket at the primaries or the first to lose re-election in Bauchi State political history.
