Porous Borders Due To ECOWAS Protocol Causes of Insecurity In Nigeria

The senator representing Nasarawa North senatorial district, Senator Philip Aruwa Gyunka has attributed the increasing insecurity in Northern States of the country to the porosity of the nation’ borders.

 

Gyunka during an exclusive interview with selected Journalists sympathies with Mada nation over the massacre of 16 persons in Numa by suspected Fulani herders on Sunday night.

 

He said the free entry and exit of aliens from Economic Community of West African States wreak havoc to Nigeria as a nation.

 

“Insecurity has crossed border from Nigeria Republic to North-Easthern States up to North-Central States”.

 

He called on the Federal government to take a precautionary measure to tackle trans-border Banditry.

 

“ECOWAS Protocol of free entry of national of African countries ignited the increasing rate of criminality ranging from banditry, Kidnapping and unwholesome killings”.

 

Urging the Federal government to beefed up security at the porous borders to avert the importation of sophisticated weapons and influx of mercenaries into country.

 

The outgoing senator called on the National Emergency Management Agency to as a matter of urgency provide sucor to the Internally Displaced Persons in Numa community seeking refuge in Andaha, Akwanga and other settlement following an attacked by suspected Fulani gunmen on Sunday night.

 

Senator Philip Aruwa Gyunka expressed discontentment over the killings of peaceful citizens including pregnant woman.

 

The Federal lawmaker said the citing of military base in Nasarawa North senatorial district became necessary considering the security lapses ranging from Banditry, armed robbery, kidnapping which he said were left checked by government.

 

“I will suggest that if government would not provide security to the citizens or people should be allowed to handle firearms”.

 

“One thing I observed was that why was it that, Fulani herders also plant crops but cattle didn’t destroyed their own farm produce”.

 

“You can’t go to Nigeria Republic and do all sorts of nonsense and go free as is obtainable in Nigeria”.
