A group of Concerned Nigeria Police Wives Association of Nigeria has raised concerns over the non-promotion of their husbands by the Nigeria Police Service Commission since 1991, alleging that the commission favours only a few officers.

In a letter of protest made available to this medium in Jos, copies of which were sent to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Inspector General of Police, and the Nigeria Police Service Commission, they also appeal that their husbands be considered for the next review exercise.

The Women called on the Chairman, Police Service Commission, DIG Hashim Argungu (Red), to take proactive measures in the plight of these officers’ recent promotion.

The Nigerian Police Officers’ Wives disclosed that their husbands set 1991, 92. And 93 has suffered setbacks, delayed in promotion by the Nigeria Police Service Commission.

They decry that their husbands’ non-promotion by the Nigeria Police Service Commission made them worried about the long denial of their husbands’ promotion, when other officers continued to enjoy the service promotion.

Spokesperson for the group Hajiya Amina Mohammed Garba, urged the commission Chairman to carefully consider the plight of their husbands in the recent promotion of their colleagues in the force.

According to her, their husbands have continued to suffer from a lack of promotion when their juniors are now enjoying the exercise due to the failure of the system that pushed them to take proactive measures in requesting the Federal Republic of Nigeria to take proactive measures towards ending the lack of promotion.

The statement reads that,” they were promoted as ASP2 on June 15th, 2022, and confirmed as effective, especially for those who pass the exercise within two years of promotion.

She lamented that we raised concerns that our husbands meet the requirements to enjoy the promotion to the next rank, but they were denied by the commission after meeting the Prerequisite guidelines.

Mrs Mohammed Garba stressed that at least for an officer, he or she must have  3 years APER within the relevant years required by the  Nigeria Police Commission for consideration.

She reiterated that the existing vacancy for the rank of DSP is stipulated in the next promotion, as police officers recruited in 1991,92, and 93  their husbands didn’t enjoy any.

“It will be interesting to note that they filled their APER and Biodata forms, which were forwarded to the commission, as a surprise that the recent promotion didn’t capture any of them.

“They were promoted to the rank of Corporal as a result, they became stagnant as it continues unabated.
