The Delta State Police Command has arrested six suspects for allegedly dealing in illicit drugs.
The suspects, identified as Anabel Haruna, 18; Terhemen Faith, 19; Kaityo Abigail, 23; Iorkee Eunice, 26; Osomuri Emmanuel, 31; and a 15-year-old female juvenile whose identity was withheld, were arrested by operatives of the Department of Operations while on routine patrol along Alegwe Street, off Owa Road, Agbor.
A statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer for the command, SP Bright Edafe, and made available to journalists in Warri on Thursday, said the operatives, acting on credible intelligence, raided a store suspected to be used for the sale of illicit drugs.
The statement said the operation was conducted “in furtherance to the marching order by Commissioner of Police, Samuel E. Erale.”
“During the operation, a subsequent search of a vehicle linked to the suspects led to the recovery of quantities of Tramadol, Rohypnol and other suspected illicit substances.
“The suspects and exhibits are in custody, while investigation is ongoing,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Erale, warned that the command would continue to identify and dismantle drug distribution networks operating within the state.
The police boss emphasised that “Delta State will not be allowed to become a safe haven for illicit drug trade or any form of criminal enterprise,” noting that “the proliferation of illicit drugs fuels violent crime and other forms of criminality.”
He further directed operatives across the command to intensify intelligence gathering and enforcement against drug dealers and their networks.
