Poisonous Fish Will Not Be Consumed By Innocent And Innocent Nigerians-FCFN

Nasarawa State Chairman of Fisheries Cooperative Federation of Nigeria Limited, Honorable Bashir Mohammed Umar has vowed that innocent and unsuspecting public would not be subjected to health hazards associated with the consumption of such unwholesome fish sold by dubious persons across the State and beyond.

Chairman of the Association in the state, Mohammed Bashir Umar during an interface with journalists in Doma said, suspects in connection with the act took to their heels, abandoning the poisonous fish to escape arrest.

Mohammed Umar noted that under his watch, suspects will have no hiding place and promised to deploy every means to ensure that they face the temerity of their actions and inactions.

The chairman cautioned members of the association and those in the fishing business to desist from engaging in such bad practices to enhance the safety of fish consumers in and outside the State.

While lamenting the ugly trend, the chairman fish dealers Association Doma Local Government Mr Joseph Amegwa called on their counterparts in other parts of the State to support the drive towards discouraging the application of chemicals for fishing.

The shoal of fish was therefore buried by the State chairman of the Association, Mohammed Bashir Umar in the presence of personnel of the Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security Service to prevent sale and consumption by unsuspected buyers.

Worried by reported cases of water pollution through the use of chemicals for fishing by individuals and groups, the state chairman Fisheries Cooperative Federation of Nigeria, Mohammed Bashir Umar in synergy with Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security Service was on red alert to check the activities of defaulters.

Nasarawa State Ministry of Agriculture through the Director of Fisheries and Aquaculture Mr Judah Attah held a series of meetings with officials of the association across communities in the state to educate the public on the dangers of chemical fishing.
