The President of Tiv Development Association (TIDA),Comrade Peter Ahemba has confirmed that over twenty corpses were recovered by joint team of security and stakeholders of Tiv nation.
He disclosed this during an exclusive interview with selected Journalists shortly after a critical stakeholders meeting between the state governor, Tiv and Fulani elders held at the local government Secretariat.
Comrade Peter Ahemba said over 25 persons were injured and admitted at private clinics in Assakio,he hinted that the gruesome killings of Tiv’s was not an unprovoked attacked.
He said the killings cut across 12 communities in Awe,Obi and Lafia local governments which he listed to include Chabu,Chena,Ayakate,Tiagu Angwan Ayaba,Daah,Ugbah and amongst others.
Ahemba attested that over 5000 persons were displaced affected part of Obi, Awe and Assakio and its environs while majority were displaced.
He said the killings is not unconnected with a corpse of a Fulani man that was discovered at the terrain by herder’s alleging to have been killed by the locals.
TIDA President told Journalists that upon the discovery of the corps the said group of people started killing last Saturday night by launching attacked on Chabo ,Daah and Ugba communities all in Awe.
Ahemba asserted that no single Internally Displaced Person’s (IDP’s ) are leaving with relatives in Agwatashi, Obi while others have taken refuge in neighbouring towns.
“We don’t have single IDP camp presently in Nasarawa state” he confided to Journalists.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Nansel Ramlan, when contacted on phone for confirmation, said he was attending a security and stakeholders meeting in Obi.
He further explained that a statement would be made available to Journalists.
