The alleged   rift  between Zamfara State House of Assembly and Governor Abdulaziz Yari on Monday became violent when youths in hundreds trooped to the House purportedly to stop moves to impeach the governor.

Newsdiaryonline gathered that early this morning, the youths moved to the House based  on a tip off that members of the Assembly were planning to impeach the governor.

The Speaker, Hon. Sanusi Garba Rikiji and most of the members ‎were not at the House and Police moved in to disperse the mammoth crowd.

Newsdiaryonline further gathered that the youths angrily moved to the house of the Speaker‎ throwing stones. “The Police again had to be invited to disperse and keep vigil at the house,” an eye-witness told this reporter.

On rumours that the Rikiji had been ‘abducted’, a source very close to the Speaker told Newsdiaryonline that “I was with the Speaker two days ago and I saw him this morning. I don’t think like that has happened.”

All calls to the Speaker could not go through but the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the House of Assembly, Nasiru Usman told Newsdiaryonline in a telephone discussion that he was not aware of any planned impeachment ‎by the House.

“As far as I know, there is no plan to impeach the Governor. I am not aware of any Order Paper that suggests any plan to impeach the governor,” ‎he assured adding, “the Speaker is neither held by the group of youths that trooped to the House and the Speaker’s residence nor the Police.”

‎The youths, according to a source, have vowed to thwart any move by members of the House to impeach the governor.
