Plateau PDP Crisis: How Chris Hassan State Executives Were Denied Voting At The Just Concluded North-Central Congress-Hon Macham
The political confusion facing Plateau People Democratic Party, PDP, is yet to be over as was even seen in the just concluded North-Central Congress held in Makurdi, the Benue State Capital on Saturday as Plateau State delegates numbering 38 were denied the voting right.
This allegation was made known by the aspirant for the PDP in Plateau state,Hon Emmanuel Macham who told our medium that he witnessed the disgraceful assembly of Chris Hassan led exco at the Congress venue in Benue.
According to him this exercise was the party National secretariat compliance to the judgment victory of Justice S.P.Gang for the rule of law as the court pronouncement continues to take its toll against impunity on the PDP self-acclaim Executive.
The PDP SEC aspirants wish to commend NWC of our great party for guarding the sanctity of the rule of law by abiding with the several court judgments, which invalidated in unmistaken terms, the charade of 29th August 2020.
In his press statement made available by Emmanuel Macham JP Publicity Secretary (Aspirant) described as Uhuru the impunity and anarchy style of leadership in Jos.
He stated that whereas the NWC came to the firm decision during its meeting of Wednesday 7th, April 2021 at Wadata Plaza Abuja to abide by the pronouncements of courts of competent jurisdiction, some disgruntled elements using their allies attempted to infiltrate the ranks of the party delegates at the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi venue of the Zonal Congress with counterfeit lists but they were effectively checkmated.
Macham pointed out that following the clear sense of direction provided by the National Secretariat of our party, the North Central Caucus of the party at its meeting yesterday 9th April 2021 at the Banquet Hall of the Benue State Government House, Makurdi, chaired by Gov Ortom, each State Chairmen took turns to provide briefings on the state of the party in their various states. When it was the turn of Plateau State the report had to be provided by Sen ID Gyang, as well as Rt Hon Emmanuel Goar former Speaker Plateau State House of Assembly who captured the holistic situation of the party in the state to the amazement of respected leaders of the zone.
He cautioned that I sensed that their game was up, the impotent EXCO resorted to an attempt to smuggle themselves into the venue of the Zonal Congress. They used suspicious Delegate Tags allegedly printed around Ahmadu Bellow Way, Jos to gain access, but they were effectively blocked from participating in the electoral process even if it was mere affirmation. This was done deliberately to save the party from the grave consequences of allowing illegal delegates to vote.
The National Secretariat of the party reasoned that if following court pronouncement, it was illegal for Jos North and Kanam LGA to participate in the 29th August Kangaroo Congress in Jos, then it was completely illegal to allow an invalidated EXCO to participate in the Zonal Congresses. Despite positioning themselves at the Plateau pavilion where they took several pictures, they did not participate in the voting procedure. This explains why their e-rats abruptly stopped posting images on social media.
We have been vindicated that the gathering of 29th August 2020 was not a State Congress. However, despite achieving this milestone, we wish to state that Congress was not conducted in compliance with the court procedures. The Courts have clearly held that “Parties who have submitted to the jurisdiction of the court are under a legal duty not to do anything to frustrate or make nonsense a possible court order…” This is precisely why State High Courts Pankshin Division issued an Order “setting aside and declaring null and void” the charade of 29th August 2020 “during the pendency” of the suit. The Law is settled, “Once a party is aware of a pending court process and whether the court has not given a specific injunctive order, parties are bound to maintain the status quo pending the determination of the court processes.”
In the case of Suits, N0:PLD/J/439/2020 and Suit N0:PLD/J276/2020 the party had been served with ALL court processes and duly represented in ALL court proceedings and judgment was been fixed taking to account the convenience of both sides in court. Indeed, only recently, the court threw out a Motion filed by the Party’s lawyers seeking to arrest the court judgment, for lack of diligent prosecution.
Our battle is not targeted at any individual(s), we are fighting relentlessly against impunity and we enjoin all well-meaning PDP faithful to continue to support us.
We have submitted ourselves enough for genuine reconciliation despite the blackmails, provoked attacks, and several other forms of molestation.
It is very clear, we remain totally committed to ensuring justice, equity and fair play where everybody will be free to own and hold the party jealously.
