Governor Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir on Thursday said that planting trees is not only to create a green environment but also to generate income for farmers in order to improve food nutrition and security, also create jobs more especially for youth and women.
The Governor, who said this during the flagged off of the 2025 tree planting campaign in Kuletu, Dass local government. Said to plant a total of one million trees across all twenty (20) local governments that form the State to curb desertification.
“Our forests are under siege, with uncontrolled deforestation, illegal logging, bush burning, including flooding, erosion, and desert encroachment.
He said that tree planting in Bauchi State must become a massive movement, a people’s revolution to reclaim their land, restore their dignity and integrity, and create a new hope in their environment.
According to the governor, “Trees are not just nature, ornaments, but are life-sustaining assets; they absorb carbon dioxide in soil fertility.
He further said that planting trees is the most powerful, low-cost cost and nature’s best solution that people can adopt.
“Since assuming office, our administration has been mean family committed to environmental restoration and climate resilience through our collaboration with ACReSAL and other partners. We have planted millions of seedlings and distributed them across schools, communities, institutions, and public facilities.
“This year alone, we are targeting 1 million trees across all 20 LGAs of the State, which the trees include Nim tree, guava, mango, cashew, orange, and other economic trees that will bring development to our dear state, Bauchi.
The governor said that planting of trees will not only green the environment but will generate income for farmers of the State in order to improve food nutrition and security, also create more jobs, especially for youth and women.
He said that they will use religious organizations and others to teach people that planting trees is a religious duty and obligation, further said that planting is not only enough, but also survival.
The Governor, Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, said that they are providing free seedlings to households, schools, and farmers, engaging extension workers to support community restoration efforts, working with environmental partners to monitor the survival rate, strengthening laws to combat illegal bush burning and charcoal trade, promoting clean energy, ultimately to reduce firewood defenders
He urged all the local government chairmen and councillors to take the campaign to their areas.
