The Project Coordinator of Green Plant Ecosystem Conservation Network, Mr. Edward Obiozor has officially flag-off Tree Planting in Public Secondary schools in Plateau State towards empowering communities to restore ecosystems and mitigate climate change in Nigeria.
Obiozor during the tree planting ceremony at the Government Secondary School Hwolshe , Jos between private and public schools on Tuesday, advocated for the extension of the project across the 17 LGAs in Plateau State.
He said, together, we plant trees, Our projects are developed with local communities, to protect or enhance biodiversity and contribute to climate change mitigation by removing CO2 from the atmosphere as the trees were planted in our reforestation projects statewide.
According to him, he is deeply honored to see commissioners coming to witness the launch of the significant beginning of using our children in secondary schools to address the challenges of climate change.
He reiterated that education is one of the most powerful tools use in empowering the generation to take the necessary steps toward preventing drought inflicted by global warming.
Obiozor revealed that the planting exercise is focused on seedlings, to give hope now it is crucial to seek the partnership and support of government and private individuals especially the Ministry of Education to enlighten more people on tree planting.
He admonished that what you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want with your support, we are getting closer to our common goal of protecting our climate and planet. Impact that matters, discover our projects.
He added that by reforesting a country where 90% of the native forests have been destroyed and already 220 Million trees planted on Plateau soil one of the largest on the Planet, we are reforesting mountains sides, schools and restoring native forests and ecosystems, again reforesting is one of the challenging terrain that is unstable in deforested areas discover by our projects team.
Edward Obiozor called on the Plateau State Government to see Plant trees as adequate compensation for your carbon footprint Plant trees, compensate is for our carbon.
Highlights of the occasion were applauding the community leaders for their positive contribution to the success of the project.
Edward advised each of the participating schools to take steps and improve the trees by ensuring that it’s growing and surviving which is a significant impact in the state in building an ecosystem that betters people’s lives.
The Commissioner for Secondary Education, Alh.Nyalun lauded the program and promised to partner with the coordinator for improving the well-being of the state.
He described Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang administration as visionary and committed in rebuilding the state for service delivery.
Also, the Principal of GSS Hwolshe, Mr Emmanuel Zi said the school remain one of the pilots in achieving the goals of Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s agenda of the land being green.
We have three sources of water in the school that can enable them to water the trees to revolutionize the land green.
Emmanuel emphasized that as ambassadors of the tree planting campaign, they’re thankful to the governor for allowing the project to be sited around Hwolshe.
