PDP Calls For Buhari’s Disqualification From Presidential Election

Barely two weeks to Nigeria’s presidential poll, the Peoples Democratic Party has charged the Independent National Electoral Commission to disqualify the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress and President of the country, Muhammadu Buhari.

The presidential election is scheduled to hold on February 16.

The party said Buhari should be disqualified for what it described as acts inconsistent with the electoral law against rigging.

The party alleged that Buhari on Thursday during the APC presidential campaign in Kano imported non-nationals and governors from neighbouring countries, especially Niger Republic, to openly campaign and declare support for him during the election.

Uche Secondus, the National Chairman of the PDP, who described the act as shameful while addressing party supporters in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State during the PDP presidential campaign on Friday, called on INEC to take proactive measures in order guarantee its status as an unbiased umpire.

He noted that such action by the candidate portrays the plan by the ruling APC to import more foreign nationals into the country to influence the elections to their favour, a development he said which was enough for INEC to disqualify the party and its candidate from participating in the elections.

Secondus explained: “Let me warn INEC that what we witnessed yesterday is the worst that we have seen in the country, where people from other countries like Niger and Chad came to influence the election in Nigeria.

“We ask INEC to disqualify Buhari for bringing in mercenaries to influence the election.

“INEC better be warned that you cannot rig this election.

“We have already won this election.

“Atiku believes in the youths and women and that is why they are always trouping out massively to welcome him anywhere we have gone.”

He restated that a vote for the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abibakar, was a vote for freedom from poverty, hunger and insecurity and also called for re-election of Governor David Umahi, who he described as the best governor in Nigeria.

The President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, decried the high rate of hunger and unemployment ravaging the country under the current APC administration and attributed their failures to gross inexperience in economic management

Saraki noted that Abubakar has the required experience to positively change the country’s narrative, having been in both the private and public sectors for a long time.

He urged the people to “vote for a man that can talk to anybody, bring in investors to Nigeria, eliminate hunger from the land and revitalise the economy – the man, Atiku Abubakar.”

Peter Obi, Abubakar’s running mate and former Governor of Anambra State, while praising Governor Umahi for his developmental strides, said the party wants to replicate what the state governor is doing in the state at the national level.

Obi emphasized: “What the governor is doing in the state is what we want to be doing for the entire country.

“The country is collapsing.

“No security, nothing is moving.

“With Atiku Abubakar, there will be a better Nigeria.

“Students are home instead of in school, hospitals are not working.

“If you want these things to be corrected, vote for Atiku, vote PDP.”

Wife of the presidential candidate of the PDP, Jennifer Atiku Abubakar, while commending Ebonyi State for its massive support, assured: “I have known Atiku for over 35 years and I can tell you that he is the right man for this job.

“He is your in-law and so he will threat you people well.”
