Over 20,000 TIVs From Benue State Are Refugees In Nasarawa State-Governor Al-Makura

Nasarawa state governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura has confirmed that over 20,000 Benue refugees are seeking refuge in Nasarawa state.

Al-Makura hinted this when he paid a visit to Keana,Awe and Tunga community at the weekend.

The governor added that over 25,000 Internally Displaced Persons are refugees in the existing camps in the crisis prone Nasarawa South.

He averred that 20,000 are from Benue state while 500 IDP’S are from Nasarawa state.

The governor maintained that 5 units of Mobile Police are deployed to quell the upheaval in the border towns of Benue and State.

The governor asserted that the 5 units are to be stationed in Awe, Keana, Tunga, Obi while one of the unit would be on standby in case of any eventuality.

Al-Makura sympathies with TIV nationalities over the attack meted on them, adding that the state did not bargain for crisis.

He said the state government is committed by protecting and supporting the lives of the people, he says government would ensure that total security of lives and properties remain his cardinal objective.

Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura said the state government would ensure that regular supply of food items and relief material reaches the right persons.

He buttressed that the state government would accord topmost priority to security of lives and properties of the citizenry.

Urging those fomenting troubles to shed their sword for the interest of peace.
