Suspected hoodlums on Sunday evening attacked the convoy of Dr Sekinat Oyebamiji, wife of the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, leaving the Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Sekona Branch, with serious injuries.
The incident occurred in Ede South Local Government Area shortly after Dr Oyebamiji concluded a voter mobilisation and sensitisation programme in Alajue Ward 2 ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
She was accompanied by Princess Bukola Adereti, wife of the APC deputy governorship candidate, Kayode Adereti, during the political engagement.
It was gathered that the convoy came under attack at about 7 p.m. while departing the venue, as about 15 suspected hoodlums reportedly descended on the vehicles.
During the attack, the NURTW chairman in Sekona Branch sustained severe head injuries, while Dr Oyebamiji and Princess Adereti escaped unhurt.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of Ede South Local Government Area, Kolawole Salami, condemned the attack and called on security agencies to identify and prosecute those responsible.
Salami said the incident occurred around the Alajue and Sekona Garage axis as the APC campaign team returned from the political event in Alajue, Ede.
He alleged that the attackers were loyalists of the Accord Party and urged the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
As of the time of filing this report, Dr Oyebamiji had yet to respond to requests for comments on the attack.
