Organized Labour Strike: Nasarawa Police Command Deployed Over 1000 Police

The police in Nasarawa state in a concerted effort to forestall peace and order in the ongoing cacophony between the state government and the organized labour in the ongoing statewide protest over fifty percent salary cut has deployed over 1000 policemen to government ministries, agencies and Boards.

The state commissioner of police, Lawal Shehu stated this during a press briefing held at the state command along Makurdi road, Lafia,he said the frantic measure was meant to maintained law and order.

Shehu opined that the measure was to ensure that total peace was maintain throughout the ongoing strike, saying the essence was to ensure that no hoodlums takes advantage of the rift between the two parties to cause confusion.

Calling on the protesting workers to eschew violence, in another development, supporters of the All Progressives Congress cut across the length and breadth of the thirteen local governments today stage a rally in the state capital to garner their support to the recent salary cut by governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.

Lafia Square marched to the government house to shower their encomium on the present administration was disrupted by heavy downpour.

As around 2:27pm government ministries remain closed, as at press time the gate of the former deputy governor’s office was broken down by people identified to be members of Nasarawa State Youth Empowerment Scheme (NAYES) to allow free access to offices by civil servants.

The former deputy governor’s office was one of the largest premises that housed the ministries of Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, Women Affairs, Finance, Works and Housing, office of Secretary to the State Government and ministry of environment.

Other agencies and boards are the Nasarawa Electricity Company, Nasarawa Urban Development Board (NUDB), Bureau for Salary and amongst others are wilderness in spite of the threat of the state governor to sacked the protesting workers.

The state governor, it would be recalled said the state government would engaged the service of fresh graduates into the state civil service if the organized labour failed to end it strike action.

Umaru Tanko Al-Makura stated last week at the 35 years anniversary of monarch of Nasarawa Eggon, Aren Eggon Bala Abene Angbazu, as he said there is no going back on the fifty percent salary cut.
