The Bishops of the Jos Ecclesiastical Province of Nigeria has appointed Rev.  Fr. Mark Nzukwein as the Rector of St.  Augustine Major Seminary Jos, Plateau state.

Rev Fr. Mark Nzukwein who is of the Jalingo Diocese is to be assisted by Rev. Fr. Timothy Barga of the Maiduguri Diocese who is to serve as the new vice chancellor.

A Statement from the Communication Director of the of the Catholic Archdiocese of Jos and the Priest in charge of the Blessed Sacrament Church Jenta Mangoro, Rev. Fr. Alex Dung said the appointments were approved by Pope Francis and later adopted by Bishops of  Jos ecclesiastical provincial meeting held in Shendam recently.     .

The statement says the Rev. Fr. In charge of Pankshin Fr. Boniface Nkum is to serve as the Dean of studies.

According to him, the Bishops of Jos ecclesiastical province expressed regret over the crises that have engulfed the zone in recent time.

“We write with regret that Jos Ecclesiastical province of all the provinces of Nigeria has experienced serious crises, deaths and the loss of property and displacement of people.

“Ours is a suffering Church. This is sadly also perpetuated by the unrest in Langtang south and Wase in Plateau state and in Ibi local government in Taraba state.

“We appreciate the generous effort of the Catholic Church from other parts of the world, the time has come for the catholic church in Nigeria to be self-reliant”.

Adding the Statement said; “we note that we have reached the half-way point in the extraordinary jubilee year of mercy announced by Pope Francis. We appeal and encourage Catholics to liver out the spirit of the year of mercy and pray for the fruitful end of the year which closes on the solemnity of Christ the King on the 20th November 12016”.
