The move by a member Federal House of Representatives from River State,Hon. Bob Solomon for the abolition of Local Government from the 1999 constitution as amended has continued to generate serious heat from right, left, and center, This foisted the National body to organize a North-Central rally to protest the move.
National President Comrade Akeem Olatunji said the bill secretly going on in the National Assembly to dissolve the Local Government System as the killer bill.
He faulted the State Governors for undermining the third tier of Government, Adding that the Local Government System is under the colonization of the State Governors.
The National President stated that the agitation of NULGE includes the need for the scrapping of the Local Government System.
“Let there be a free, fair and credible election”
He said the Local Government System is a laboratory for all politicians in the country, Adding majority of Nigerians are from the grassroots”
NULGE President says Local Government System in the early seventies the Local Governments are used as centre for security.
He explained that the failure of the tier of Government at the top constitutes the increasing waves of insurgency.
“It was all history going back memory lane that Local Government provide clinics, roads, schools, water to the people”
Calling on the President to use his executive power to restore and salvage the Local Government System in the country
Describing the State Government as a feeder arm of Government, saying some countries are operating two systems of Government.
The National President of NULGE called on the National Assembly to take solace and reverse their position for dialogue or the Association would embark on national protest
“The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees is ever ready to take over the National Assembly if no stringent approach is taking to tackle the situation”
During a question and answer session, A member of the Association called for the scrapping of the House of Representatives and the Senate.
The President accused state Governors of sponsoring the movie.
The President of the host State, Comrade Sharabilu Adamu appreciate the President in spite of his tight schedules to lead a team of National officers to the state.
He buttressed that Nasarawa State Chapter of NULGE is solidly behind the national Secretariat.
