Executive Chairman, Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board,Dr Kassim Muh’ammad Kassim has launched a tree planting campaign to address environmental degradation in the State.
Dr Kassim, who performed the ceremony on Monday at the board environment, warned again against indiscriminate falling of trees, promising to embark on sensitization across various primary schools to massively plant trees to tackle the climate change affecting food security in the State
The NSUBEB chairman said this move would help mitigate the adverse impacts of global warming, desertification, and deforestation, adding that all living creatures need oxygen to survive, and because trees play an impressive role in providing oxygen, it’s imperative to plant a tree today for a sustainable future.
Speaking earlier, Youth Coordinator, Nigerian Red Cross Society of Nigeria, Nasarawa State Mr Samuel Ibbih who led members of the Red Cross Society in the state on sensitization to the board said trees are super essential to life on the planet and they are like the lungs of the planet and they breath in carbon dioxide and breath out oxygen which living things, especially human require.
He said, trees also combat climate change and help control erosion, heal/regenerate the soil, and provide habitat for birds and other wildlife.
“It is for this and many more important roles that trees play in our lives and environments that the Red Cross Society Nigeria has engaged massively in afforestation and reforestation efforts.
