Four northern governors today held a closed door meeting with two former heads of states, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar in Minna. It will be recalled that the same governors have visited Governor Rotimi Amaechi and former president Olusegun Obasanjo last week where they held similar meeting before their visit to IBB and Abdulsalam in Minna today.
The meeting which was held amidst close door, at the presidential lodge of Niger state Government House Minna, had in attendance Governors Aliyu Babangida of Niger, Musa Kwankwaso of Kano, Sule lamido of Jigawa and Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State.
As gathered the meeting said to have touched on issues concerning the poor state of the nation’s economy, the disintegration of the ruling PDP and the return of anarchy to the country’s political landscape under the supervision of President Goodluck Jonathan.
In his speech with newsmen, former President Ibrahim Babangida said; “I just want to commend the Governors here and some of their colleagues, I am very impressed because they see the problem of this country as our problem and they have taken the right step to consult widely in trying to find solution to some of the leading problems. They are real patriots. I am very happy and I told them so.”
However, Governor Babangida Aliyu speaking with newsmen, said that the meeting was held to While promote a political agenda; “now we are consulting with our elders and leaders to look at some of the problems and solutions to the problems that some of us perceived we are facing, simple.”
“The solution to Governors Forum crisis, political issues which have come up and we are consulting to make sure that we all understand the issues and we all come out with solution, and we will also carry our people together as we go along.”
“There is no gathering in Nigeria now that Rivers’ issue will not come up, but our meeting today is a larger issue than even the Governor’s Forum. We are discussing on how to solve them,” Aliyu said.
