Northeast Youths Agitate For House Of Reps Speakership

Northeast Youth Amalgamated Forum have called on leadership of the newly elected political party in the country, the All Progressive Congress (APC) to zone the position of Speaker Federal House of Representative to the North east.This was stated in a communique issued to the press by the youth forum in Gombe yesterday.  The communique said, the forum after having long deliberations and discussion on the issues that affect the zone, came up with a stand and request that, the zone deserves spacial recognition by the new ruling party because of the role it played in ensuring its victory at the polls.

Also according to the communique, the north east zone having the most number of ethnic  nationalities and minority tribes has been tamed as the most disadvantaged zone in the country having being the most backward in terms of infrastructure and human development despite its immense contributions in national unity and development.

Adding that, most problem faced by the north east sub region particularly, unemployment are associated with the youth, this according to them has given birth to many more problems including the lingering insecurity in the zone.

Part of the communiqué stated that,  ” having considered the gravity and closeness of the sit of the Senate and speakership of the Federal House of Representative, we there by, desire a position so vibrant in the north east, we call on the leadership of the party to zone the position of speaker to the youth of this region in line with the principle of affirmative action. This will foster growth and further bridge the gap between our ethnic nationalities.”

The forum further stated in the communique, that it has condemned in totality the use of god-fatherism, religion, and sectionalism in the choice of national leaders, adding that, ” we employ and solicit members of the entire zone to endorse and support this course of our struggles for good representation of the north east in the country, having considered merit and national importance.”

The group further demanded that youth should occupy majority of other federal appointments in the next government, having considered that, the youth constitute more than half of the country’s population.

While condemning the Boko Haram insurgency in the sub-region, the group also called on the Government to adequately compensate victims of the insurgency, and rebuild the area, in other to give the people a sense of belonging and further cement the unity of the country.

Earlier, chairman of the forum Comrade Yamaha Sale stated that, the forum as a representation of various youth groups in the north east, was organised with a view to foster progress and ensure unity in the sub region. Adding that, the forum is particularly concern with issues relating to youth and women in the region.
