The chairman House committee on Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission, Hon.Muhammed Okpede (PDP) representing Doma north constituency has unfolded that no preparation by the state government to conduct elections into the thirteen local government councils.
The honorable member gave the hint during a chat with selected journalists at his abode in Doma recently; Okpede maintained that N700m was budgeted to NASIEC in 2016 budget.
When asked about the time frame for the conduct of council poll ,the chairman decline comment, saying the determination of time for election remain the sole responsibility of the chief executive.
“But hopefully the governor will constitute TMC that will work for one year before the conduct of election in the state”.
Available information revealed that the amendment of 2009 local government law was meant to legalize the appointment of Transitional Management Committee by the state governor.
The TMC, according to impeccable source would comprises of appointed members from each of the electoral wards in the state
