Nigeria Security Challenges: Barr.Kwamkur Advocates Govt To Protect Communities In Middle-Belt At All Times

The Former National Director, Legal and Public Affairs of the Christian Association of Nigeria. Barr. Kwamkur Samuel Vondip has advocated that It’s high time leaders in government (Local, State and Federal), philanthropists and people with means supported the communities with the required resources to acquire necessary equipment, training and skills that will help them protect themselves and property in order to secure their future and generations to come.
He made this disclosure in a statement in Jos,while expression his frustration over the incessant attacks and massacre of innocent lives in Middle Belt communities.
According to him,” I listened keenly to the brief, rich, educative and intelligent speech of the Director General of the Department of State Security, Mr Adeola Ajayi.
“He was calm, slow, steady and calculative in his choice words, manner and presentation garnished with a sense of humour yet deep and direct to the point with practical experiences and examples on how our communities could be better secured”he explained.
The address is best described as; Painful Truth to Conscious Citizens.
The expository address is in line with the various provisions of the law for self protection and defense.
Kwamkur stressed that, It is true that most of the security agencies are doing their best in curbing insecurity but the results are not good enough because of pressures, complacency and sentiments among other challenges
It’s my strong conviction, as I had formally suggested to the government of Plateau State and other neighbouring states through proposed bills in years past that unless and until the communities are trained, empowered and encouraged to defend their territories, the guerrilla decimation of communities will not stop with the effort of the security agencies alone. Besides, endangered nations are known for providing security training for all their citizens for self defense first, then the nation.
Affected Governments must factor internal community protection mechanism in their plans and budgets if vulnerable communities are to be secured.
It is an expression of weakness with no gain for leaders and influential members of communities coming to the media or telling the public and authority about their desire to resort to self defense as if an application or government consent is required for such.
Right to self defense is inherent and guaranteed in law with judicial decisions supporting individuals and even nations to defend themselves in the face of eminent life threatening danger. Self defense is a reflex action not premeditated.
Life is sacred and must be protected at all times through whatever means available. It is cowardice for anyone with capacity to sit back and allow himself, his/her relatives, neighbours or anybody within visibility to be killed without a convincing attempt to prevent it with equal and superior reactions.
