NGO Train 306 Men And Women In Skill Acquisition Programme In Four States

At least 306 Women and Men were trained on health and economic benefits of modern wood/charcoal cook stoves in four states says Women Initiative for Sustainable Development Organization.

The Programme Director Olaninike Olugboji, made the disclosure on Tuesday during the training of 30 in Gombe state said, the aims of the training advocacy is to create awareness for women to understand health hazard associated with firewood smoke.

She said “currently WISE trained 306 women and men across Kaduna, Cross River, Delta and Gombe State.

“This is energy efficient stoves that help interns of health hazard women are facing, deforestation and household savings.

“We cannot continue to lose our Forest resources unsustainable because, we all what is happening in the face of climate change, every hand need to be on deck to address the problem of environment,” she said.

According to her, thousands of Nigerian women die annually as the results of smoke related illnesses which among is the firewood smoke.

She added that women need to be save from this danger and to be provided with an alternative from traditional to modern method to save energy and resources.

The programme director said the participants are to create awareness in their respected Communities for more women to be aware of the significance of the training.

Mrs. Amdo Mela Lauyalam a beneficiary commended the Organisation for organizing the training and assured to step down to grassroots.

She said the training had exposed her to understand the health hazard of firewood smoke.
