National And State Assembly: Tribunal Adjourns To 25th May For Prehearing, Inaugural Sitting In Jos

The National Assembly, Federal House of Representatives and Plateau State Assembly  Election  Tribunal has adjourned to the 25th of  May,2023 to entertain the petitions filed before the election tribunal sitting in Jos ,Plateau State on Monday 15th day of May ,2023 and to commenced prehearing and inauguration  .

The 3 man penal of the Election Tribunal headed by Honourable Justice ,Mohammad Tukur gave the adjournment following the oral  application by Pius Okubo ,SAN, seeking the order  of the tribunal tovgrant them audience to commence pre- hearing before they fixe date for the  official inaugural sitting .

However ,the Senior Advocate of Nigeria ,SAN,Pius Okubo pledged an unalloyed to the tribunal from the bar and their  commitment towards  speeding dispensation of justice from the members of the  Bar.

He promised that as members of the bar, they would give the tribunal maximum cooperation because the election tribunal is time bound and that require  fast and quick dispensation of justice owning to the numerous petitions files before your Lordships.

According to him, there are many petitions files which are so intimidating and frightening ,that of the National ,House of Representatives and the State Assembly so we assure you that we are going to put our heads together to support the tribunal in accordance with the guidelines of rule 4 of the new electoral act .

Okubo says,in his oral application that ,I urge my Lordships to convert this morning session to serve as inaugural sitting so that all the processes shall be adopted because this morning we still received filing and exchange of documents so when next the tribunal will sit it  can commence  full inaugural sitting continue with normal business of hearing  .

He stressed that by my request on behalf of the bar the prehearing session to just to  ease the tribunal burden of handling over 17 petitions filed on ground .

However ,after listening to the argument of the  two Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) that were presented on separate grounds  on  the  7 days and 10 days but the tribunal chairman resolve it in favour of 10 days to enable them complete all processes and the resume properly   .
