The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Adamawa State, Omar Suleiman, popularly known as Omarana, has reaffirmed his commitment to peaceful politics, respect for the rule of law and issue-based campaigns, while urging political actors across Nigeria to embrace civility ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Reacting to a recent court judgment over the unauthorised placement of campaign posters on public infrastructure, Omarana said his campaign accepted the court’s decision in obedience to the rule of law, despite maintaining that he neither authorised nor encouraged the action.
He said accepting the verdict reflected responsible leadership and democratic accountability, adding that members of his campaign had learnt the importance of discipline, respect for public property and compliance with the law.
In a statement titled “I Come in Peace,” Omarana said his campaign would remain focused on presenting practical solutions to governance challenges rather than engaging in political confrontation.
He also thanked members of the ADC, support groups, volunteers and residents of Adamawa State for their continued support of his campaign vision, “Adamawa That Works – For Today, For Tomorrow.”
The ADC candidate praised the party’s leadership, including its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, National Chairman David Mark, and the Adamawa State Chairman, Sadiq Dasin, for strengthening the party’s growing national presence.
Beyond the legal issue, Omarana urged governments to adopt a broader approach to environmental protection, arguing that attention should extend beyond campaign posters to persistent sanitation challenges affecting many Nigerian communities.
He identified indiscriminate waste disposal, blocked drainage systems and growing refuse dumps in parts of Yola and other communities as major environmental and public health concerns requiring urgent intervention.
According to him, modern waste management should be viewed as an economic opportunity capable of creating jobs through recycling, waste-to-energy projects, organic fertiliser production and other circular economy initiatives.
The governorship hopeful said his administration, if elected, would pursue public-private partnerships to establish sustainable waste management systems and position Adamawa as a leader in environmental innovation.
He cited sustainability initiatives at the American University of Nigeria as an example of how environmental challenges can be transformed into economic opportunities through innovation.
“Our objective is not merely to clean our cities. Our objective is to create jobs, improve public health, stimulate investment and make Adamawa a model for environmental innovation across Nigeria,” he said.
Omarana also appealed to his supporters and members of other political parties to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the electioneering period, stressing that no political ambition should result in violence.
He said his campaign would continue to prioritise policies on job creation, industrialization, education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, security, technology and environmental protection.
