NASU Education, Associated Institutions Holds 7th Quadrennial Delegates Conference In Imo

The leadership of Non-Academic Staff Union, NASU,of Educational and Associated Institutions, was on Monday, Sept.9th 2019 at the school auditorium of Imo State University Owerri, IMSU, successfully held her 7th Quadrennial Delegates Conference of University Trade Group Council.

 

The 2-day Universities and Inter-University Centres Trade Group Council Quadrennial Delegates Conference which was held at IMSU attracted all the registered members of the Union from across the country, Nigeria, was however described as the most peaceful conference by some of the leaders who spoke to newsmen.

 

The Host Branch Chairperson, Comr.Mrs.Eugenia C.J.Anoruo, in her address, expressed satisfaction on the height of leadership achievements so far recorded by the union and promised to maintain the unity, peace and progress amongst members.

 

Comr.Anoruo, said some of the achievements includes: “All the officers/membership data processing of all the Clerical Officers now received their promotion letters, even those stagnated for more than 10-15 years. Quality representation of our members in staff disciplinary tribunal, payment of deducted pensioners, their other entitlements of the deceased members to their next of kin and so on”.

 

She described the two days meeting of the union as very strategic in the sense that it is the first UTGC gathering for both re-elected and newly elected branch officers. The Chairperson therefore admonished those piloting the affairs of the union and those newly elected as branch officers (executives) to think always think of the call for selfless service, think of the union’s welfare, which according to her remains their utmost priority.

 

 

The NASU Imo State Chairman, Comr.George Ofoegbu, expressed delights to witness the conference, and promised to deliver.

 

The Deputy President of NASU, Comr.Chris O.Ani, in his words, assured justice, fairness, equity and unity of purpose.

 

Good will message was rendered by the Vice Chancellor of IMSU, Prof. Mrs.Victoria Adaobi Obasi, even as she officially declared the conference open.

 

Speaking, the General Secretary of NASU, Comr.Prince Peters Adeyemi, in his words, thanked all the participants who came to Imo State for the conference, and called on those newly elected and those who would be elected to join hands in building of the union to greater heights.

 

“We must continue to work for the growth of the union. Let’s always seek for unity, peace and progress in our country Nigeria, most especially on the academic growth. We have given warning strike notice to the Federal Govt. We are asking them to do something. We do not want the FG to accuse our union. The government should has a listening ear. We do not want our children in the universities to go on strike carelessly anymore”, the Gen. Sec. submitted.

 

Those bestowed with various of honour and excellence by NASU includes:” the IMSU VC,Prof.Obasi,

the NASU General Secretary,Prof.BEB Nwoke,Prof. Nkwam Uwaoma,Mr.Kingsley Mbamara,and Dr.Emeka Echendu. Other awardees are: NASU President, Comr.Chris Ani”.

 

Meanwhile, the IMSU VC,Prof.Obasi, earlier charged the current leaders of the union to remain focus, target oriented and committed towards their growth.
