Bola Longe, the Commissioner of Police Nasarawa State Command has identified shortage of Personnels has a major challenge confronting the police in Nasarawa State.

 

The Commissioner unveiled this when members of the Correspondent’s Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Nasarawa State Council paid him a courtesy visit at the command.

 

Longe buttressed that the Police in Nasarawa State in a concerted effort to tackle the increasing cases of Kidnapping,theft,raping, homicide and other miscellaneous crime in the State has adopt a mechanism to combat crime to the barest minimum.

 

“Nasarawa State with a landmass of 27,000 Sq km have only 5000 Police perssonels”.

 

He in addition said the mass exodus of criminals from North-Easthern to North-central States of Plateau, Benue, Kaduna, Taraba, FCT Abuja constitute a peril to Nasarawa State.

 

Bola Longe said the command would partner with the Correspondent’s Chapel of the NUJ, Nasarawa State Council in fighting crime.

 

Urging Journalists in the State to potray the State in a good light,saying only this would woo in investors to the State.

 

Calling on Journalists to be patriotic by showing commitment towards nation’ building instead of demaging the interest of Nigeria.

 

“What is obtainable in today’s Journalism is corroding people’s image “.

 

The Commissioner reiterated on the need to transform from analogue to High Tech Policing, adding that Police is duty bound to face criminals frontally.

 

The Chairman of the Correspondent’s Chapel, Abubakar Suleiman thanked the Commissioner for the opportunity accorded the Union.

 

He said some of the challenges of the command include the non- formal invitation of the Correspondent’s Chapel to events and functions by the police.

 

Promising that the Correspondent’s Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Nasarawa State Council would work hand to hand with the police.

 

Saying crime fighting should be the collective effort of the police and Journalists in the State.
