The Nasarawa State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to combating malaria through a strategic partnership that will see the distribution of 1.8 million insecticide-treated mosquito nets across the state.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Gaza Gwamna disclosed this on Thursday while receiving a delegation from the United States Global Health Supply Chain, led by the Director of the Malaria Program, Oladayo Adekunle, to review the implementation of the mosquito net distribution campaign.

Under the partnership, Nasarawa State is expected to receive 1.8 million mosquito nets valued at over ₦5 billion, with approximately 20 percent of the consignment already delivered. The initiative is aimed at reducing the burden of malaria and improving public health outcomes across communities.

Dr. Gwamna said the administration of Governor Engr. Abdullahi . Sule remains committed to ensuring the effective implementation of health interventions, assuring that the mosquito nets would be distributed transparently to households, especially those at the grassroots.

The Commissioner added that Governor Sule has been fully briefed on the progress of the intervention and has expressed his commitment to providing the necessary support to ensure that the mosquito nets reach the intended beneficiaries across all parts of the State.

He further assured development partners that the State Government would continue to fulfil its counterpart funding obligations and sustain collaboration on malaria control and other critical healthcare programmes.

Speaking during the visit, the Director of the Malaria Program, Oladayo Adekunle, described Nasarawa State as a “very reliable partner,” commending the State’s consistent collaboration in malaria prevention and control. He noted that the partnership extends support to nine other States across Nigeria.

Both parties further stressed the need for improved environmental sanitation, effective waste management, and the active involvement of Local Government authorities to ensure the long-term success and sustainability of malaria control efforts in the State.

The intervention further demonstrates the commitment of the Nasarawa State Government under Governor Abdullahi . Sule to strengthening healthcare delivery through partnerships, preventive healthcare measures, and strategic investments in public health.
