With the mixed reactions by politicians in Nasarawa state over the zoning of governorship ticket by the People’s Democratic Party to Nasarawa north senatorial district, the Hon.member representing Doma north (PDP) has disagreed with the zoning of governorship ticket to zone.
Hon.Muhammed Okpede gave the revelation in a chat with selected Journalists in a sallah message; the member opined that the decision was not in the best interest of the party.
The lawmaker said the zoning system would not stand the taste of time as the position was taken without due consultation with party bigwigs.
Accusing the state chairman of the party of flouting the power shift formula during the last state chairmanship election.
“Our party chairman, Hon Francis Orogu in the recent chairmanship election disrespected the power shift formula which gave him the mandate to be on the seat as chairman, for that the zoning of governorship will not work as well, he added.
“The party chairmanship slut was zoned to Obi Local Government but been from Keana Local Government he resisted the zoning and went ahead and contest for the position and won”.
“The governorship ticket to Nasarawa north would not be an exceptional case but rather would be decided by contestants and delegates during party primaries.
“The contest should be left open for people with interest to contest”.
Hon.Muhammed Okpede,a second timer in the Nasarawa state House of Assembly when asked whether he could defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress, he said he would decide when the time comes, stating that he remains a card carrying member of the PDP.
“Six of us were elected under the PDP but now its remain only the two of us as opposition in the House of Assembly, only time would decide for me, he further added.
