Wise men say, “A divided house cannot stand”. This the true situation in the Nasarawa State Wing of the People’s Democratic Party.
Is no longer news that the bubble in the PDP just burst following the stalemate and salient war in the party as some position seekers at ward and local Government level are at daggers drawn.
Members of the PDP shunned moves by think tanks of the party to scuttle ward congress of the party in the State, It was a futile exercise as ward were held in some places.
It was reliably gathered that fragment of Local Governments insisted for open contest by participating actively in the ward congress in the State in spite of an allegation of court orders restraining the conduct of the congress.
Recalled that an erstwhile and serving Senators from the party had allegedly gone to court to secure an injunction to restrain the party from the conduct of the ward congress in the State.
A party chieftain said is high time that just a few individuals would drag the party backward, Adding that the trooping out of people to seek elective positions by conducting congresses across the 13 Local Government Areas of the State is a clear indication that the party is in disarray.
Hitch-free elections were held in various wards devoid of rancor and acrimony to reaffirm their bargain for consensus.
However, There were pockets of complaints by some aggrieved members alleging the involvement of few critical stakeholders in ensuring that the ward congress did not hold, Instead agreed on consensus as the last option.
Some of the aggrieved party members expressed concern about why and how can those first beneficiaries of the party who are fully involved in decision-making approach a court of competent jurisdiction to scuttle the process.
“We in Nasarawa State were not aware of the court order, our National Secretariat never communicated with us. INEC officials, the police, and other security agencies were on the ground to prove that we conducted a hitch-free process.
A chieftain of the party who pleaded anonymity alleged that decision-makers in the party including the past and present senators from Nasarawa South had agree on two options which are either consensus or election and the party in some places went for consensus.
“The party is surprised to hear that the two think tanks went to court to stop the process they all agreed on. We can’t be held to ransom by those few individuals.
The erstwhile Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Dr Mike Omeri appealed to all members of the party to consider the party as a jewel in the Savannah by burying their hatchet
“No one can force the clock to wait or work for him or her. Even the current struggle for opportunities to serve shall pass away.
Recall that the outgoing State Chairman of the party, Honorable Francis Orogu in one of the interviews with Universal Reporters sought consensus as the only way to foster peace in the party.
Recalling back that he needed a more peaceful and stronger party that will stand the taste of time, adding that the Journey was rough and tough.
