Nasarawa Lawmakers Emphasized On Disarmament, Reversing Military Check-Points

Nasarawa-State-House-of-AssemblyWith the increasing insecurity in Nasarawa state, Lawmakers in the state has emphasized on the disarmament of militia as a means to curb the unabated crime rate in the state, The lawmakers also reiterated on the need to reverse military check-points abolished recently by the Federal Government.

The House resolved that the re-instatement of military check-points and formations in the volatile area would reverse the waves of criminality perpetrated, Hon.Muhammed Okpede (PDP) representing Doma North constituency has emphasized on the disarmament of militants and miscreants as the only solution  to the rising spate of robbery, Kidnapping and communal clash.

Okpede asserted that farmers in Doma, being the food basket of the state no longer go to farm due to the ugly trend; He affirmed that the intervention of Government has become imperative as the increasing crime rate portends danger to the lives of the citizenry.

Hon. James Akoza Dangana raised alarm over the withdraw of military from crisis prone areas in Ekye, James (APC) representing Doma South appealed to the state Government to revert the withdrawal of military formations for the interest of the masses.

The lawmakers are speaking following the aftermath of the abduction of a former female lawmaker, Mary Onwugulu by unknown gunmen, Hon.Muhammed Muluku expressed displeasure over the increasing robbery and other criminality in the state .

Hon. Barrister, Abubakar Ogberre Kana (APC) also unveiled the rising spate of killings in Kokona West, His constituency as uncalled for, He lamented the withdrawal of military from their formation in the trouble community of Bassa and its environs as a wrong decision, Saying scores lost their lives on daily basis.

Other lawmaker Hon. Daniel Ogazi (APC) representing Kokona East also emphasized that the state Governor beinn the chief security officer should expedite action in combating the ungodly act committed by hoodlums across the state.

Hon. Kazzim Muhammed Kazzim also unfolded the damning activities of men of the underworld, Kazzim (APC) representing Akwanga West narrated that incessant gunshots takes over the air-waves at dawn in his constituency .

“Our people hardly close their eyes in the night with the sporadic gunshoots in Akwanga, Something need to be done to bring succor to people of Akwanga.

Hon. Ibrahim Bala Moskolo in his submission attributed the high rate of unemployment among youth to the unabated criminal activities, He further opined that scores of graduate roaming the street of Nasarawa state, and in addition identified the nonpayment of three months workers salary to hunger and poverty.

Hon. Godiya Akwashiki ,The Deputy speaker of the House said the lasting solution to the menace was to invite the state commissioner of police to the House of Assembly, The members at their resolution directed the clerk to write to the state Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura prompting him to take a decisive measures to nip the increasing insecurity by the bud.

    It’s not just about armaments and checkpoints,but to address what led to the struggle in the first place. You can imagine some Nigerdelta youth have taken up arms again.
