The Director-General, Nasarawa State Bureau of Information and Communication Technology, Shehu Ibrahim has called upon the people of the State to vote for the State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule ahead of the IT Governor’s Award which has commenced from October 20th to 16th November 2021.
He stated this during a press conference organized by BITC in collaboration with the State Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, an event marking this year’s Digital Nigeria Day held in Lafia, The Nasarawa State capital,
He said the State Governor, has been nominated for the award alongside the Governors of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, and his Enugu State counterpart, Dr.Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
The Director-General averred that supporting Engineer Abdullahi Sule for the award became imperative while considering the immense contributions of the Governor ahead of the National Information Technology merit awards.
He, however, explained that the State Governor has reiterated his administration’s readiness towards a digital initiative for economic prosperity.
Nasarawa State Government, According to the D.G BITC, Shehu Ibrahim says it would continue to improve its economy through infrastructural development, industrialization, and digitization of processes and use of Information, Communication Technology for the economic prosperity of the State.
Shehu buttressed that Governor Abdullahi Sule was working assiduously to transform the economy of the state through digital economy, hence his nomination for the 2021 Information Technology Governor of the Year award by the Nigeria Computer Society coming up in November this year.
Saying the vision of the present administration is built on the Nasarawa Economic Development Strategy document, describing NEDS as the blueprint meant to elevate and place the State among the top three most competitive states in Nigeria.
He however said by 2023, Nasarawa would move to the next level in terms of sustained accelerated growth, increased economic opportunities, and improved quality of the lives of the citizenry, among others.
“This year’s theme is “Digital Transformation: A Path to Sustainable Digital Economy” which is in line with the vision of Nasarawa State.
The Director-General averred that “The Digital Nigeria Day” will provide an opportunity to identify and promote success stories and leading lights in the expansion of Nigeria’s Digital Economy.
He in addition, stressed that the goal of the Bureau will focus on all strata of society, including young innovators, the elderly, people living with disabilities, internally displaced persons, etc.
The activities surrounding the celebration will also incorporate a robust and virile media enlightenment campaign cut across the State.
” ICT has been one of the key areas that this administration has focused on, through regulating, training, restructuring, re-equipping, developing and making an enabler for the economy, through keying into the digital economy and digital service delivery,” Shehu disclosed.
He congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari for his commitment to the growth of the digital economy, which according to him was a continuous drive towards repositioning the non-oil sector to take the centre stage in driving the growth of Nigeria’s economy.
The Director-General applauded the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami for making digital literacy the pathway to success and the key to securing the nation.
He called on the people of Nasarawa State to continue to support the administration of Governor Abdullahi Sule who beam his searchlight on the development of youth and the use of digital technologies to enhance visibility and eliminate inefficiencies.
He also called on the people of the State to vote for the Governor for the National Information Technology Merit Awards.
