Nasarawa Councils Owes Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission N103 Million Tax

The permanent secretary ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Daudu Sabo has raised alarm over tax liability by the Local Governments in Nasarawa state; he said the tax liability yet to be remitted to the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission.

He unveiled that the thirteen councils owned a whooping N103, 510,950.22, adding that tax liability was for 2012-2013, he further affirmed that the money gulped to N190M which he said include penalties and interest.

“Local councils paid N59M in October, 2016, because of the drop allocation”

Local Government Interim Management Committee chairmen rejected the deduction o the tax liability from the Federal Allocation Account Committee.

The chairman of Nasarawa Local Government, Bar.Ayuba Wandai expressed worriness over the deduction of the tax from the source as an embracement if RMAFC recovery the tax direct from FAAC.

Wandai further said the payment of the amount once from Local Government purse would add more untold hardship to workers at the third tier of Government.

The Accountant General of the state opined that money to the tune of N59M was paid in October, 2016, urging the ministry and the IMC to agree on paying in six installments.

The IMC chairman of Wamba , Hon.Shuaibu Musa Wayo in his contribution urged the ministry for Local Government to apply wisdom by taken a bold step tackling the situation.
