Nasarawa Commissioner For Justice Presents  A Law To Guarantee Safety Of Females And Minors

Nasarawa State First Lady, Hajiya Silifat Abdullahi Sule has described the raping of a three months old baby in Adogi Community of Lafia Local Government as inhuman and babaric act.

 

She stated this when she lead a peace walk and campaign against violence on minor and women in the State, the first lady condemned the defiling of three months old Zainab.

 

The first lady opined that the act potray Nasarawa State in a bad light by an unknown man in Adogi.

 

“Men should be ashamed of yourselves, we nurtured your pregnancy for nine months,gave birth to you, breastfeed you and this what you will pay us back, Ashame on you for exhibiting this callous act on an innocent child”.

 

The first lady said rapists has alternative by going to brotel where they will pay N1000 to satisfy themselves instead of tarnishing the reputation of a female toddler for God sack.

 

The State Commissioner of Justice,Barrister Abdulkarim Kana worried over the rising spate of raping and the recent defiling of three months old baby presented a new law that would guranttee the safety of rape victims in the State.

 

Barrister Abdulkarim Kana disclosed this when Nasarawa First Lady,Hajiya Silifat Abdullahi Sule lead a conglomeration of woman Associations comprises of Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN) ,National Centre for Women Society (NCWS),The Commissioner for Women Affairs,Human Right Commission (NHRC) lead by the Coordinator, also the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists lead by it National Vice President Zone D, Jamila Abubakar.

 

Other Women stakeholders are the wife of the Deputy Governor, Commissioner of Police,The Speaker House of Assembly and amongst others, The Attorney General while presenting the new law which would guranttee the safety of minor and victims of rape to have free access to health facility without any preponderances.

 

Barrister Kana while presenting the document to the First Lady which was subsequently handed over to the wife of the Speaker for onward delivery to the Speaker,Hon.Ibrahim Balarabe explained that the new law make provisions and set aside funds to conduct DNA test for victims of raping as well those that were defile.

 

He said the conduct of DNA test would make it easier to present an evidence as well prosecute perpetrators of such a heinous crime in the State.

 

Justice Commissioner further explained that the new law if passed by the Nasarawa State House of Assembly will give room for forensic and scientific examination of rape cases as well reduce violence against minor.

 

“The signing of the Child Right Act executive order 2020 by Governor Abdullahi Sule brought about the successful repatriation of al-majiri from Nasarawa to their States of origin.

 

“We have a case of raping involving a police officer who raped a 13 year old girl and was apprehended,I was under pressure to set the officer free but I turn down the request due to the gravity of the crime”

 

Adding that,” I was pressurized face to face and through text messages and threat from family members to let the police officer go,he ran away from Akwanga to Jos to jump Justice but to no avail.

 

He identified the fear of stigmatization by the society as a contributory factor compiling parents to withdrew such cases from a court of competent Jurisdiction,Calling on the State Commissioner of police,Bola Longe to assist in this regard.

 

Barrister Abdulkarim Kana urged parents and guardian alike to enrolled their female children in school,attributing hawking as a major contributor to raping of under age roaming the street in the name of hawking.

 

Saying all hands must be on deck to fish out perpetrators of crime and criminality against humanity,stating that rapist are not madmen rather criminals and heartless and should be treated as criminals.

 

“If armed robbers are robbing to acquire properties,Kidnappers are kidnapping for ransom ,what are the gains of rapist for raping a three months old minor ?.
