Nasarawa Assembly Steps Down Contributory Pension Bill

Following the outcry by civil servants in the State, the Nasarawa State House of Assembly has stepped down a bill for a law to make provision for a Contributory Pension Scheme for Employees in the Public Service of Nasarawa State and for other matters connected therewith.

The House said that the bill was stepped down to enable the House to receive contributions/inputs from critical stakeholders on the bill before its consideration and possible passage.

The Speaker, Balarabe Ibrahim Abdullahi stepped down the bill during the House proceedings in Lafia.

” A bill for a law to make provision for a Contributory Pension Scheme for Employees in the Public Service of Nasarawa State is very critical to the lives of our public servants in the state.

” This bill requires the contributions/inputs of stakeholders such as NLC, pensioners among other stakeholders in order to add their voices to the bill.

” We need to call for a public hearing and the time now is too short for us; we will step down the bill. This bill is hereby step down till 7th Assembly,”  he said

The Speaker assured public servants and other stakeholders of the assembly’s commitment to get their inputs on the bill.

Similarly, the House passed into third reading a bill for a law for the establishment of the Nasarawa State College of Education, Akwanga and other matters connected thereto.

The Speaker announced the passage of the bill into law during the House proceedings in Lafia.

The Speaker said that the bill seeks to extend the 60 years retirement age of both academic and non-academic staff of the college to 65 years.

” A Bill for a Law for the Establishment of the Nasarawa State College of Education, Akwanga and other matters connected thereto is read the third term and passed,” he said

The Speaker directed the clerk of the House to produce a clean copy of the bill for Governor Sule’s assent.

Earlier, Hon Umar Tanko Tunga, the Majority Leader of the House moved a motion for the bill to scale third reading.

Hon Abel Bala, the Minority Leader seconded the motion.

The House unanimously passed the bill into third reading.

In the same vein, the Speaker slated tomorrow, Wednesday, May 31st, 2023 for the third reading of four bills after the House adopted various reports on the bills during the House proceedings today in Lafia.

The House deliberated and adopted the report of the Joint Committee on Public Account/ Finance and Appropriation on A Bill for a law to repeal the Nasarawa State Bureau of Statistics  Law No.84 of 2012 and Re-Enact Same 2022 and Other Matters Related Thereto as presented by Hon Abdullahi Dahiru Angibi, chairman Joint Committee on Public Account/ Finance and Appropriation

The Speaker is slated tomorrow, Wednesday, 31st May 2023 for the third reading of the bill.

The House also deliberated and adopted the report of the House Standing Committee on Judiciary, Ethics and Privileges on A Bill For a Law to Amend Nasarawa State Customary Courts Law and Other Matters Connected Therewith

The Speaker is slated tomorrow, Wednesday, 31st May 2023 for the third reading of the bill.

Furthermore, the House deliberated and adopted the report of the Ad-hoc Committee on A Bill For a Law to Repeal and Re-enact the Nasarawa State House of Assembly Service Commission Law and Other Related Matters.

The Speaker is slated tomorrow, Wednesday, 31st May 2023 for the third reading of the bill.

The House deliberated and adopted the report of the House Standing Committee on Water Resources and Rural Development on A Bill For a Law to Provide For the Supply and Sanitation of Water in Nasarawa State and other Matters Connected therewith.

The Speaker is slated tomorrow, Wednesday, 31st May 2023 for the third reading of the bill.

The Speaker said that the bills are critical to the development of the state, which was why the House gave adequate attention to the bills and to ensure that the bills pass into law tomorrow, Wednesday, May 31st, 2023
