Nasarawa Assembly Rejects Al-Makura’s Proposed Redefinition Of Akun Chiefdom

The Nasarawa state House of Assembly has rejected the proposal for the redefinition of Akun to Anzo chiefdom in the interest of peace and development in Eggon land, the lawmakers advised the State Government to discountenance the idea of changing the traditional stool from Akun to Anzo chiefdom.

The Deputy speaker,Godiya Akwashiki (PDP) gave the advice after a report on the bill for a law for the change of traditional stool from Akun chiefdom to Anzo chiefdom was adopted after presentation by Saidu Galadima (APC-Toto/Gadabuke) at the floor of the red chamber.

Saidu Galadima, chairman House committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, said that the people of Akun chiefdom vehemently rejected the proposed redefinition of the title from Akun to Anzo chiefdom.

“We received in audience stakeholders of the proposed redefinition of Akun to Anzo chiefdom on Monday, 16th November,2015 which overwhelming rejected the change of its traditional stood from Akun to Anzo chiefdom since the Chief is already a second traditional ruler.

The lawmakers recommend that the status quo of Akun as a chiefdom of second class status be maintained since this was the general and overwhelming decision of the people, who have been living in peace with each other since its establishment in 2003.

Hon.Abubakar Kana (APC-Kokona West),The Deputy Majority Leader moved a motion for the adoption of the report and was seconded Honorable Mohammed Ibrahim-Alkali (PDP) representing Lafia East.

The Deputy Speaker, however, directed the clerk of the house to produce a clean copy of the report for onward delivery to the Governor

On November 11, 2015, The Speaker of the House,Honorable Ibrahim Balarabe has announced they receipt of four bills for the creation of additional Chiefdoms in the state,They include four bills for a law for the creation of  Ogye, Erroh,Eholo and a bill for a law for the redefinition of Anzo chiefdom.

The state Governor, it could be recalled created additional nine Chiefdoms as well settled series of Chieftaincy tussle which has been lingering even before the creation of Nasarawa state out of the then Plateau state,Some of the traditional stools with upheavals are Chun Mada imbroglio.

He also succeeded in settling the tussle surrounding Chiefdoms of Ngar, Nunku and among others, Further investigation also revealed that Nasarawa state has the highest number of Chiefdoms in the federation.
