Nasarawa Assembly Committee On Education Recommends 30 Percent Admission Slut For Non-Indigenes

With the students’ rumpus in Isa Mustapha Agwai 1 Polytechnic, Lafia which led to the destruction of properties worth N21,491.50.00m leading to the shutdown of the institution on March,10,2021, the Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Education has recommended that thirty percent slut of admission should be given to Non-Indigenes.

 

The Chairman of the committee, Hon. Daniel Ogah Ogazi disclosed this while presenting the report of his committee to the house.

 

He explained that is imperative to accord topmost priority to indigenes while Non-Indigenes be given a thirty percent slot for admission henceforth.

 

The Chairman described the rumpus as against section 9,2 of IMAPOLY  handbook accusing some staff which he fingered as the beneficiaries of past corruption for masterminding the protest.

 

The committee also revealed that the ineffective and incompetence of the handlers of the Information Communication Technology was another factor that disrupted academic activities in the institution.

 

Ogazi added that the creation of the new portal was meant to correct some mistakes in spellings of names, the state of origins not well captured would be rectified on the new portal.

 

“We discovered that the school portal was active while the protest was ongoing, and at that time 182 students out of almost 7000 students registered successfully”.

 

The Chairman, House Committee On Education asserted that two programmes , Mass Communication and Laboratory Technicians are the least registered students.

 

Hon. Daniel Ogah said the Committee gathered that the Alumni are seriously interfering in management affairs

 

He said on March 11, 2021, 35 students were apprehended in connection with the wild protest by the security agencies and are feeding them with useful information.

 

The House subsequently gave the four executive bills an accelerated passage, the four bills are a bill to establish Contributory Health Scheme, a bill for the establishment of the office of the Auditor-General Local Government.

 

Other bills are a bill for the establishment of the Debt Management Office, NSHA Audit 2021

 

The Chairman, House Committee on Information, Hon Mohammed Adamu Omadefu said the Assembly gave the four executive bills an accelerated passage because of the significance of the bills to the development of the state.
