- Challenge pressmen to shun yellow journalism
The immediate past Governor of Nasarawa State and incumbent senator representing Nasarawa South Senatorial district,Umaru Tanko Al-Makura has challenged members of the fourth estate of the realm to exhibit professionalism in the discharged of their responsibility.
Al-Makura disclosed this to Journalists shortly after a closed door meeting between Nasarawa State Governor,Engr.Abdullahi Alhaji.Sule,Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura and his deputy,Dr.Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe held at the former Governors office,Jabi, Abuja.
Al-Makura during the press conference alienged himself as a Journalist expressed displeasure over a widely report published by selected national dailies that the debt profile of the State which was a whooping N18.9bn was fictitious report meant to distract the Governor from concentrating.
The former Governor cautioned media practitioners in the State to remove bad eggs their midst to save the noble profession from eroding.
Stating that the widely spread report was a figment of an imagination meant to smear the smooth relationship that was existing between the two of them.
“You must shun yellow journalism by separating bad eggs within you,is unkind of the reporters that wrote those reports”.he added that the report was a hook that would stagnate the progress of the Sule’s administration.
Governor Al-Makura said his predecessor and him shared same value and hope for a better Nasarawa State.
The former Governor confided that he was not indebted to any commercial Bank instead it money ranging from bailout refund,budget support,excess crude Account and amongst others.
“Though some of you are ignorant of diffrentiating between refunds and debt”.for the record I did not collect loan from any bank”.those doing these are chasing a mirage”.
“When we assumed office in 2011 I settled of N209m for
the period of 4 years”said Al-Makura.
Governor Abdullahi Sule while responding says Nasarawa State is debt free as he denied that he never asserted that the State was indebted to the tune of N18.9bn.
Sule explained that his Government is a functional administration which was prompt in the payment of salaries,execution of projects.
“There is no better place like Nasarawa State”.the Governor averred that he will always remained committed and submissive to his predecessor,Umaru Tanko Al-Makura,the architect of modern Nasarawa State”.
“I’m not an ingrate to be at loggerhead with my political mentor”said Governor. Engr. Abdullahi Alhaji.Sule.
