—Thugs invade council chambers and molest journalists and councillors.
Some Plateau Law Makers of Jos North LGC have passed a Vote-of-No-Confidence on Jos North LGC Chairman, Shehu Bala Usman citing gross misconduct.
They also served an impeachment notice to the council chairman.
It was gathered by this medium that while they passed a vote of no confidence on him, thugs stormed the venue and harassed some councilors and Journalists who were covering the procedure.
The thugs broke the camera of the correspondent of Arise TV.
Meanwhile, a group under the auspices of Jos North Progressive Youth(JNPY) has today 1st of July, 2022, passed a vote of no confidence on the present Chairman of Jos North LGA, Hon Shehu Bala, accusing of him of incompetence and maladministration.
The group who spoke through its leader comrade Philip Ajiji, said they made such resolve in the interest of peace, unity and progress of Jos North, considering the retrogressive development in the Local Government Council.
“We are aware of the humungous unjustified loans he has mortgaged the lives of people with,” he said.
Weighty allegations against the chairman include impunity and religious intolerance, financial misconduct, poor local government staff welfare, and discord, especially among indigent tribes.
He called on the Plateau State Governor H.E Rt Hon Simon Bako Lalong, in the interest of the hard-earned peace enjoyed in Jos North LGA, to immediately facilitate the exodus of the current Chairman, “that is how bad and deplorable things are in our Local Government” he said.
“No Local Government has suffered a backlog of salaries in this regime like that of Jos North under the watch of Shehu Bala, which is antagonistic to the gains and aspirations of the Lalong campaign mantra” he added.
“The impunity has reached an extent that he gives more priority to Muslims than Christians in the Local Government, this could be seen in the racket employments and promotions he has been making and issuance of indigene certificates and land titles indiscriminately to undeserving kinsmen of his.”
He juxtaposed the inconsistency and incompetence of the Chairman that has led to the party’s failure during the February re-run election of Jos North/Bassa Constituency and warned that with Shehu Bala as Chairman the APC will definitely lose its relevance in Jos North.
The group is not only made up of the three main indigenous tribes in Jos North, been Afizere, Anaguta and Berom, but also members of other majority tribes domiciled in Jos North including Igbo, Yoruba, irigwe, Urohbo, etc.
“Jos North is a cosmopolitan and a miniature Nigeria, having almost all the tribes of Nigeria constituting it, and as such needs a more experienced and unbiased Chairman,” he said.
However, the Executive Chairman of Jos North Local Government Council, Shehu Bala Usman has condemned the attack on the Legislative Council by some hoodlums at the Council’s secretariat in Jos.
The Chairman who spoke through his Special Adviser , Media and Publicity, Philip Eplong wondered why hoodlums will attack the Councilors who are performing their legitimate duties and disassociated the Executive arm of the council of any complicity in the impasse.
Usman explained that since assumption of office, neither him nor any member of the executive arm has ever interfered with Legislative functions and as a democrat who believes in the separation of powers and the rule of law, he is not contemplating doing so.
While condemning in strong terms the barbaric act, the Chairman appealed to security agencies to immediately wade into the matter and apprehend the perpetrators of the dastardly acts to serve as a deterrent to others.
He also charged the security agencies to embark on a thorough investigation to unravel the sponsors of the dastardly act stressing that his administration will not fold its arm and watch unscrupulous persons breach the relative peace being enjoyed in the area.
The statement called on residents to remain calm as the Local Government is on top of the situation and anyone found wanting will face the full wrath of the law.
