The former Councilor of Jenta Adamu and the National Secretary of the Middle Belt People Forum, North Central Nigeria, Dr. Dankadarko Alaku (popularly called Bob. D.K has accused President Buhari-led Federal Government of making them vulnerable to attack by bandits, Boko Haram, and other attacking merchants as they are being killed on a daily basis without any help from the government.
As they have advised their people not to stand folding their hands while they are being killed, and advised them to go all out and defend themselves from the attackers whose aim is to annihilate the whole Middle-Belt.
The association, under the auspicious of the Middle-Belt Forum comprises of Plateau, Benue, Nasarawa, Taraba and Adamawa, Kogi, Kwara states made the accusation in an interview with its Secretary Hon. Bob D.k Alaku with journalists in Jos, Plateau State.
Bob Alaku said the killing currently going on in Middle -Beit that seems to have defied all solutions, had been before now envisaged by the governor of Nasarawa state, Abdullahi Sule when he raised the alarm that Boko Haram had migrated from their enclave in the far North and are currently at the boundaries of Benue and Nasarawa state perpetrating atrocities, killing the people of the Middle-Belt, but the federal government didn’t respond to the alarm.
He further said the people of the region are peace-loving, and “we have been watching events, and we don’t want to put the law into our hands and fight back that is why we always advise them to protect themselves within the confine of the law.
The Dankadarko further added that they have put plans in place to come up with security outfits like our counterparts in the Southeast and Southwest to help and tackle the problems of insecurity in the region.
He commended the efforts of the National President of Middle Belt Forum Dr. Bitrus Pogu over his peaceful disposition which our enemies, particularly those who are not from the region are underrating the peace enjoyed in the Middle Belt.
He decried the killings going carried on by some people who vowed to annihilate the people of the middle belt without government intervention.
“They have been killing our people, but we always tell them to calm down and pray over it.”
On the recent massacre of people, particularly from Tiv extraction in Nasarawa state, the Secretary explained that the governor of Nasarawa Abdullahi Suleh raised alarm over the impending threat of attack, and reported the matter to the Federal Government without any proactive step to nip it on board, they invaded some of the communities and unleashed mayhem on the people and leave not fewer than 70 person massacre.
“They came through Taraba state axis, the federal government was aware of the Killings in those areas, some of them apprehended, they were eventually released.”
He stressed that there is no crisis that exceeded Forty -Eight hours unless there are government hands in it, he maintained.
Hon.Alaku called on the federal government to take proactive steps to protect the lives and properties of the citizens in the Middle Belt who are at the vague of being exterminated by bandits and Boko Haram insurgence particularly as the general election is fast approaching because the Modus Operandi of the insurgent is to claim the people’s ancestral land.
