The Senior Special Assistant to the President on the Millennium Development Goals, Dr precious Gbeneol has stated that the government is accelerating efforts in the final push to attain the MDGs as the global community wind down the global agenda that was set in 2002.
Gbeneol also charge governors, Local Government Chairpersons to redouble their efforts in delivering development to the people maintaining that the entire targets of the MDGs are the whole essence of governance.
With less than 1, 000 days to the deadline, Dr Gbeneol stated that all hands must be on deck irrespective of class, position and status.

The presidential aide stated this in Anambra, south East Nigeria while commissioning projects executed in partnership with the State government under the Conditional Grants Scheme, CGS maintaining that the government is committed to delivering on the MDGs till the last day of the programme in 2015.
And this was evident in the projects that were commissioned across the length and breadth of Anambra State. Dr Gbeneol supported by the governor of Anambra state, Peter Obi, commissioned three buildings at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Ihiala, Ozubulu small town water supply scheme, buildings at the Holy Rosary Specialist Hospital and Maternity, where a block of maternity building, school of midwifery were commissioned and general out – patient department building was inspected. Blocks of buildings were also commissioned at the renowned Iyienu Hospital Ogidi, which produced the first registered midwife in Nigeria (Mrs C. U. Koripamo from Bayelsa), while the distribution of 500 school buses to the public and private secondary schools in the state was also flagged off with the first batch of 120 handed over to the benefiting schools as part of the integrated strategy to enhance education in the state.
The buildings commissioned at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Ihiala includes:  the general out-patient Department, School of Midwifery Hostel block, school of nursing hostel block while inspection was carried out on the on-going construction of the school of medical laboratory building. The Hospital also received a brand new automated Ambulance for emergency cases as well as a cheque of fifty million naira for the completion of some of the on-going projections.
At Ozubulu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on the Millennium Development Goals commissioned the resuscitated small town water scheme, one of 14 of such projects which are distributed across the state. The water project is reticulated to cater for the community and ease the hitherto problem of water in the area.
Originally constructed as Ozubulu/Orafite water supply scheme in the early 1960s, the scheme hitherto took its source from the Eze/Nze Stream before the in-take works got silted up in early/middle 1980s due to poor and inadequate maintenance as well as lack of sustainability plan and was subsequently abandoned until the present joint effort by the OSSAP-MDGs and the state government.
Speaking at the event, Governor Peter Obi stated that the state under his administration decided to adopt the MDGs as its development agenda due to the appropriateness of the framework.
He added that the structure effectively provided by the federal government has markedly given the needed backbone for the numerous achievements the state has recorded in giving the required development to the people.
