Low Turnout Mar NLC Protest In Jigawa

Yaseer Ahmed

In what appeared to be a low turnout protest in Jigawa, the activities remain as usual in most of the major cities of the state, despite the directive of NLC on Nationwide protest.

It was observed that, traders and other businesses were normal as there was no much attention to the planned protest where people and workers in particular shunned the rally as a result of alleged poor mobilization by the state’s chapter of NLC.

Going round the state capital, it was gathered that public and private schools was opened and workers were available at federal and state’s secretariat.

Findings by our reporter in Dutse the state capital indicated that the local chapter of the NLC’s chairman, Comrade Sunusi Alhassan Maigatari led a scanty crowd to governor’s office and delivered the workers message to the governor.

It was gathered by our reporter in the state that Comrade Sunusi Alhassan Maigatari allegedly failed to make a concrete mobilization despite the national NLC secretariat directives to all it’s branches for peaceful protest.

Comrade Maigatari allegedly led few people and streets beggars (Almajiri) as most of workers were at their places of work carrying out their normal office activities.

Speaking at government house Dutse, the labour chairman in the state, Comrade Sunusi Alhassan Maigatari said the reason for the peaceful demonstration is in protest on the policies imposed by the federal government causing serious difficulties to Nigerians.

On his part, the Jigawa state governor who was represented by his deputy engineer Aminu Usman Gumel promised to convey the NLC message to the governor as well as taking it up to president Bola Ahmed Tinibu for action.

He called on the protesters to be calm and be law-abiding so that miscreants would not take advantage of the protest and vandalize things on the process.

When contacted to respond on why the low turnout, the chairman Jigawa state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) through his mobile telephone, Comrade Maigari said “sorry I’m holding a meeting presently”.
