Worried by the looming strike set to be embark upon by the Plateau University, the Vice Chancellor, Plateau State University, Professor Yohana Daniel Izam has challenged the union leaders to sustain industrial harmony.
He said the called was a means for the Union and management to foster effective implementation of staff welfare policies put in place by the current management which will also fast track developmental projects.
Professor Izam made this disclosure while reacting to planned for industrial action by the Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities(SSANU) and the Non Academic Staff Union(NASU) of the University .
He expressed confidence that such reports could not have emanated from the Joint Action Committee of the University given the significant progress already made towards addressing staff welfare issues.
Izam noted that there has not been any breakdown of communication between the University Management and the JAC who have earlier informed it of their desire to join the 5-day nationwide protest by SSANU and NASU. He enjoined staff of the University not to rest on their oars in promoting the emergence of a peaceful and conducive atmosphere that would foster teaching and learning considering the recent unfortunate security breaches involving some students of the university which is being investigated.
The VC also led members of the University Management on courtesy visits to the Commissioner of Police, Plateau Command Isaac Akinmoyede and the Commandant of the Special Task Force,Plateau State,Major General Augustine Agundu to explore ways of strengthening their efforts towards enhancing security within the University .
In his remarks at the end of the visits, Professor Izam expressed appreciation for the enormous efforts being put at the disposal of the University by the security agencies towards revitalizing the security architecture of the University for Effective Service Delivery.
