Lalong To Clear All Gratuities And Arrears Of Pensioners Before Xmas

Governor Simon Bako Lalong has promised to clear the entire gratuity and pension of the retirees across the state before next week to ease their plight during the Yuletide season.

The Governor was represented by the Head of Service, Izang Azi at the 2017 Pensioners Day celebration in Plateau state.

Lalong expressed confidence that the retirees are very dear to this administration so their welfare remains paramount to him.

He commended them for the show of understanding saying, the government inherited challenges of arrears, gratuities of several months from the past government but now we have reduced it to the barest minimum.

We have a backlog of files which they are currently working to clear all before crossing over to 2018, we give thanks to God.

Pensioners have pushed for N25, 000 minimum wage to the Federal and state government to all the retirees across Nigeria, as many of them died before getting their gratuity and pension.

State Chairman Mr. Morrice Daboer disclosed this during the 2017 Day Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Jos chapter on Monday.

He said the poverty level in which family members of deceased pensioners have found themselves because of the non-payment of death benefits of their breadwinners who are still lucky to be alive in the face of horrifying incapacitation, infirmity, indebtedness and other economic woes that is better imagined.

Daboer says it is pertinent to note that despite your recent goodwill in adding another batch of five hundred pensioners on the payroll where many are still on the waiting list.

He stressed the need for the governments to adopt a policy whereby officers are immediately placed on pension one or two months after retirement to check cases of accumulated pension alongside gratuities.

The Chairman appealed to Governor Simon Lalong to assist this Union with a vehicle and financial support for the completion of the Union Secretariat which is already at roofing level.

He called on the all the pensioners in Plateau state to give support to the executives so that we will forge together for the unity and growth of our great Union.

The National President of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Dr. A.O Afolayan said the Union with humble appreciation the setting up of a presidential committee by President Muhammadu Buhari a good friend of the pensioners to dig deep into the total indebtedness of pension owned by Federal Government.

He appealed to the government to clear the backlog of pension of federal Pensioners regularly, captured and payroll of Pensioners after the end of verification.
