Lalong Splashes Car, Motorbike Gifts On Best Performing Teachers

Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong has rewarded the best hard working and best performing teachers with a prestige Peugeot 406 and the second best with a Jinchen motorbike.

The Executive Governor disclosed this during, SUBEB, end of year prayer session and merit award ceremony held at SUBEB headquarters, NO 7 Dogon Dutse, Plateau state in Jos.

He said the administration promised to all public primary schools of feeding which has 4,474 food vendors with the federal government spending over N20, 826,890.00 to create employment opportunities in plateau state.

Represented by Secretary to Plateau state government, Hon Rufus Bature, Lalong said the star award of the ceremony which is being designed as the Governor Best Teacher Award is to be given to the best performing teacher.

He commended the Board for this initiative which he said is timely as it will no doubt inspire and reinvigorate the Plateau teacher towards contributing in no small measure to an effective educational system in the state which is in consonance with the vision of this administration.

“We have remain focus and committed to sustaining the momentum of advancing the frontiers of development of educational sector,” he noted.

“I gave my approval for the recruitment of 4850 NCE holders and the absorption of 403 teachers into the civil service to make up the deficit of teacher supply, we were able to pay one billion naira counterpart funding for 2014/2015 primary schools including training 1,325 teachers and head teachers”,Lalong explained.

According to him, 283 public primary schools were renovated and government identified capacity development needs, procurement and the distribution of assorted text books, sporting equipment.

“We are making modest effort compared to the huge challenges; we inherited in the sector that was characterized by lack of payment of salaries and low morale in the workforce for several years.

“We will continue to make the welfare of our workers a priority as it remain a veritable means of conveying government policies.

The Executive Secretary PSUBEB, Prof Mathew Sule said as a board, they decided to embark on series of award to deserving staff that have proved to be hard working and committed to their assigned responsibilities.

He further stressed that the award accorded to the deserving staff in five categories which are best performing education secretary award, best performing Teacher in each LGEAs and the best performing state teacher.
