Lalong Orders For Immediate Submission Of Fresh Names Of Nominees For LGAs Management Committee Chairmen

Following the dissolution of council chairmen in Plateau state, His Excellency Governor Simon Lalong has ordered for the submission of fresh names of nominees for the Local Governments management committee Chairmen for the 17 Local Government Areas.

He said, the Transition Committee will not enter into any award of contract as there are lots of uncompleted projects spread across the state.

The Governor stated this on Wednesday at the Yelwa club in Jos south local government area of Plateau state.

According to him, any candidate contesting Local Government elections will not be nominated for Caretaker Committees, adding that the Minimum qualification for nomination as Local Government Chairmanship is a degree or its equivalent.

He noted that qualification for Councillorship is Diploma or a minimum of SSCE, also those to be appointed, as Chairmen must reside in the Local Governments while Councilors must reside in their wards so as to function properly.

Hon Lalong warned that there won’t be Supervisory Councilors; the only privileged officers are the Chairmen and Secretaries.

He disclosed further that there must be a minimum of 3 women in the Cabinet of each Local Government which the names of Nominees must be submitted through the Local Government Party Chairmen for onward submission to the State Secretariat on or before July 18th, 2017.

The Chairman All Progressive congress APC Plateau state chapter, Hon Latep Dabang said the main purpose of the stakeholders meeting was for familiarization to help educate and enlighten supporters on the forthcoming Local government election.

He said, the invitation was for the locals, everyone who is a member of APC to be fully registered with their chairman from the wards to the state level.

“With this meeting today we want assure people of APC that the party is prepare to clinch the council chairmanship election down to councillorship, because our delay was not deliberate but to make law for LG autonomy, he said.

Dabang assured their party supporters of their determination to handle the opposition without creating unnecessary politicking.
