Keystone Bank Staff In Police Net Over N1.7 Million Naira By Umar Faruq Usman, Dutse

The Jigawa State Police Command has nabbed a Staff of Keystone Bank working in Hadejia Branch of the bank, the Banker a cashier in the bank, named Yahaya Garba was arrested by the Police following report by a senior staff of the bank alleging that the banker was diverting people’s money to his personnel account due to series of complain which the Bank received and that led to the setting of an enquiry by the Bank to look into the matter before he was arrested and handed over to the police for further investigation.

Garba Yahaya who is about 45 years of age was arraigned before Dutse Magistrate court sitting in Dutse denied the allegations levelled against him as he said that the allegations are fabrication by the person who reported the matter to the police just to blackmail his name and also tarnished his image

According to the first hand information report filed by the police, the police authority in Jigawa said the suspect Yahaya Garba was discovered by the management of the Bank, as he is always in the habit of siphoning customers money to his personal account which amounted to N1.7million following series of complains received by the bank after the bank found out that customers money is withdrawn from their account to Yahaya  Garba’s  the bank

Yahaya Garba who appeared before the Chief Magistrate Court said he did not commit the offence charged against him as his counsel Malam Muhammed Zakiyyu prayed to Court to grant him bail so as to allow the police carried out investigation on the matter.

However, counsel to the Bank, Malam Umar Yahaya agreed with the prayer the court granted the suspect bail order on three conditions, which are that the suspect must produce two sureties who are working under Jigawa State government and are above grade level 15.

Another condition is that of the Surety must be a resident of Dutse and lives in the state capital Dutse and all of the two should produce their letter of promotion to the court and with two recent passport photograph with a deposition of N200, 000 and also ensure that the suspect will not bring problem to the police while carrying out their investigation.

The presiding judge, Justice Mustapha Datti said the offense is breach of trust and it is a criminal offense punishable under section 312 of the penal code.

Justice Mustapha Datti adjourned the case for hearing till September 2, 2014 and added that if the suspect meets the bail conditions the court will grant the suspect bail.
