Kano State Govt . Finalizing Plan On Independent Power Project Take Off – Gov. Ganduje

Kano state government is fine-tuning arrangement to evacuate power from Tiga and Challawa Independent Power Projects for distribution to the public.

Consequently, the government would procure distributor transformers for rural electrification and augmentation/distribution network, the state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has announced.

The governor, disclosed this during a meeting with the President of Skipper Group, Mr. Jitender Kumar Sachdeva in his office in Gurgaon, India.

A subsidiary of the Skipper Group, SkipperSeil Nigeria Ltd., is currently executing the multi billion Naira Tiga and Challawa dams Independent Power Projects, in Kano.

He stated that “all future transformer requirements shall be done from Skipper after seeking necessary clarifications from Kano Electricity Distribution Company”.

Governor Ganduje also expressed interest in setting up of a 100MW Green Economic Zone, an eco-friendly initiative, based upon hybrid model of sourcing power as well as a proposal for a 150 KW community solar system, by the company, in Kano.

The governor also discussed with the company President, modalities for signing Memoranda of Understanding, for supply of tractors for agricultural production as well as upgrade of existing eye units in general hospitals in Kano, between the state government and Skipper Eye-Q Nigeria.

Meanwhile, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, the consortium, through one of its directors, Ms. Poonam Sachdeva, agreed during the meeting, to donate 200 mechanical sugarcane extracting units to the state within the next six months, to facilitate economically viable processing.

Governor Ganduje is in India on the invitation of the management of SkipperSeil Limited, for the formal commissioning of its 500MVA/765KV EHV Power Transformer Plant.

SkipperSeil, with its global corporate headquarters in Dubai, is a well-diversified group with business interests in manufacturing of sub-station equipment, EPC projects of Sub-stations, Transmission lines, Rural Electrification, Balance of Plant of Power Generating Stations and turn-key projects of Hydro, Thermal and Solar Power Generation.
